Jersey, one of the Channel Islands and the southernmost island of the British Isles, is the perfect vacation destination. This island is situated approximately 100 miles south of Britain's mainland but is only 12 miles from the coast of France. The beauty of this island is the fact that it is so small that you can get a view of the sea from just about every point on the island.
During World War II Jersey came under German occupation. This occupation left its www.officialfootballcolts.com/92_bjoern_werner_jersey_authentic_black_limited_cheap.html mark on the Jersey landscape which is much in evidence today. The Germans built an elaborate system of fortifications which can be seen and explored by Jersey's visitors. To really get a true understanding of how the people of Jersey suffered during the occupation you will need to Bjoern Werner Elite Jersey visit such places as; The Channel island Occupation Society - Bunker, The Channel Islands Military Museum and the Jersey War tunnels (this should not be missed).
Jersey is rich in history and I would advice a first time visitor to begin their www.officialfootballcolts.com visit with a trip to the Jersey Museum. Here you will find its history relayed in a truly fascinating and exciting way. You will learn about the Islands real history, its traditions and its culture. A visit here will probably help you plan your itinerary.
One of my favorite places to visit is the Elizabeth Castle. This castle was built on an islet in the 1590's and is just full of fun 'stuff'. The castle received its name from the then Governor, Sir Walter Raleigh, who named the castle for Queen Elizabeth I of England. Try and be there at noon as every day at noon history presents Gunner Gilly in the Parade Ground and the firing of the canon.
Being a bit of a castle enthusiast I could not miss out on a visit to Mont Orgueil Castle. This castle built during the 13th century towers over the harbor at Gorey. It was built to protect jersey from the French and now is one of the best preserved castles in Britain. And thanks to its spectacular views of the island and the surrounding sea it is often used for medieval dramas and re-enactments.
As much as I enjoy exploring the history of a place, I also enjoy shopping and love searching for local goodies. For me the capital of Jersey, St Helier, is the perfect place to shop. St Helier offers such a range of shops from well-known high street stores to local shops. There is also a Victorian vegetable and fish market. And of course many relaxing cafes and restaurants.
